Across the covered wooden bridge that connects Thistle Abbey Stables to the mainland, if you follow the old road towards the town, there is a small relatively unknown stable and riding school buried back and out of sight behind a long treelined driveway. Away from the road near where the mountains and a water inlet come together, the air is thick with pine and a tang of salt sits heavy on the breezes. The call of horses and other animals wafts on the air and there is a quiet calm amid the typical chaos that pervades every barn.

The soul takes a sigh of relief as you walk along the pine trees, pastures and paddocks surrounding the long drive up to a enormous stable building. The grounds are immaculately manicured and cultivated, and the sound of horses nickering calls to each other is like nature's music to the ears.

There is no feeling of pressure of the business, just a pure undying devotion to the happiness and well being of the animals in their care. As you come closer to the stables you are greeted by three very friendly faces - Button, Bernie, and Booger. They are The Golden Hoof's "watch dogs" but in reality they are soft and cuddly teddy bears, and escort you to the main building looking for pets and treats while playfully chasing each other along the road.

Many come here to study under the great tutelage of Siobhan McKeon, but some are drawn here by an unknown force, pulling them slowly to Tincture Abbey. This place feels like a mecca for horse lovers and horses alike.

The buildings are of cob and timber and feel like they are hundreds of years old from this rustic style, but immaculate upkeep on them makes them feel fresh and nearly alive. The energy emanating from the stables has a soul satisfying relaxed harmonic hum, but this is not to say they are not busy. The staff bustle around the facility with tasks well in hand, there is just control and functionality to everything that is done. There are 3 spires rising out from behind the general stock barn where the Grand Arena is. They flanked the box seats with two spires and one spire on top, giving the unique "skyline" to the Stables.
